Sums

some days are better than others ; keep on keeping on ; going through the numbers, ; going through the words ; again and again ; reading stories ; illumination ; fun often seems like hard work ; but we will get there in the end ;

the weather is playing games at the moment ; one minute stormy and cold ; the next hot and sunny ; going for a stroll up by the waterfall this evening and i was struck by this stick placed at the bottom of our garden by the farmer who is using it to prop up his electric line to the sheep pens across the river ; such an out-of-place thing that we do not even notice ; it is part of the scenery now ;

Finished and unravelled

:: what I am knitting ::

i found this all in a tangle outside on the patio today; the finished alpaca bed socks and a mess of unravelling; i am now frustratedly knitting { and taking apart } the band for a hat, which will have barbara g. walker’s firework stitch on it (i hope) it is all in a right old state, but i think i have now finally got the tension right

:: what I am reading ::

the poetry book ‘Dart’ by Alice Oswald; pure inspiration for this watery spring day with our river gushing past the end of the garden

Dreamcatcher

Dreamcatcher

We made dreamcatchers last week, finding the branches in the wood and then wrapping them with some odds and ends from my yarn stash. As we worked I told the girls this story :

” Grandmother Spider who wove the universe into existence was saddened by the bad dreams of her human children. So she went to the wise Willow Tree and asked if she may use one of her beautiful branches, the tree willingly bent one of her branches into a circle for her. Grandmother Spider then spun her web of wisdom around the willow hoop connecting all the people and animals on this earth together. Then she went to the powerful Eagle, the messenger of the Creator and asked him for one of his powerful feathers, Eagle willingly dropped one of his feathers from his wing, which Grandmother Spider attached to the end of her thread. Then the Willow hoop, Spider silk and Eagle feather were complete, ready to catch the children’s bad dreams, which were caught up in the web until morning when Grandmother Sun’s first rays burned them away and they turned into morning dew. These dreams trickled down the length of the feathers and were given back to Mother Earth. Any good dreams were always able to pass through the hole in the middle in order that they may come to fruition.

We honour Grandmother Spider and the Circle of Life when we hang these dreamcatchers above our beds, for she knows how to help us get rid of the remnants of our bad dreams every night. “

I love charity shops and try to get to as many as I can, as often as I can. The shop in our village is tiny, but you can fill a bag for 1 euro per item. Here is a naf naf scarf I found last week; I adore the colour and it has started me thinking about knitting a ‘medusa’ scarf for myself.

Our knit group has produced four blankets so far and they are getting better and better. We are now working on our fifth, (it seems that so many of the group are having babies, i was nearly one of them, but sadly it was not to be) which I hope to deliver to Ibiza in Spain when it is finished in November.

the alpaca socks are coming along. I am going back and forward between the two individual socks, so they are both being worked on at the same time….. knitted on two needles; frequently placed on my favourite green and yellow skirt for admiration and photographs……
